Got caught in a torrential rain storm yesterday as I was leaving my mom’s house at the start of a two hour ride home. Streets were running with rain water, couldn’t see a damn thing with my visor wet, roads were slimey as cat sh*t on a wool blanket. I was doing 70 in a 90 zone just because I could already feel my bike start to hydroplane on the highway. By the time we got out of the valley the rain had stopped, the sun came out and it was a decent 1 1/2 hour ride home. My bike is filthy though.
How do people use motorcycles for their only mode of transport? The first half hour of that ride may have been the most miserable of my life.July 28, 2008 at 4:05 pm #9443MattParticipantSame way people used horses, buggies, and walking as primary modes of transportation: Patience.
If the weather sucks, you wait it out as long as you can. If you can’t wait it out, you endure it and call it “character building”.I fully agree, riding in torrential downpours is rough.

The problem with the internet: Everyone gets the same font size.July 28, 2008 at 5:03 pm #9444ShannonGParticipantI’m so glad we’ve evolved from horses and buggies!
July 28, 2008 at 5:33 pm #9448ShannonGParticipantThe best part of this whole trip was when I was almost home and a little bronze car pulled up beside me on the highway with a middle aged lady hanging out the passenger window to give me double thumbs up. It just reaffirmed my belief that I am THE coolest person alive when I ride my motorcycle.

Did not have specific riding gear for rain but well what I did was.. (better not laugh) put on a tight jean, a plastic-fing trouser(water prooof) and on top of that another baggy jeans (If asked, I dunno why) along with a double tee, a normal jacket and my leather jacket, all time waterproof leather gloves and the bes part- didn’t have boots and so i had a pair of socks in my feet,then i wrapped it in plastic and put on another pair of socks, then my shoes… hey c’mon I was nervous and needed to go there at all costs… but still I was not wet!! except for the face, a lil.. grr

Without a fatty back tire I didn’t get nearly as wet and dirty as my husband did. I just washed both our bikes and his was filth compared to mine. His back tire flung mud and water up over the seat and all up his back.

Kidding. I have a Suzuki GS 500f. There’s a picture of it here:https://www.bestbeginnermotorcycles.com/forum/forum-topic/1014/what-will-your-upgrade-bike-be

Solomolo RiderJuly 29, 2008 at 8:03 pm #9534ShannonGParticipantNo, it’s a parallel twin so at idle it goes whump, whump, whump. I get it serviced at a Yamaha dealership and they’re all sort of fascinated by it since Yamaha doesnt’ make anything even remotely like it. Whoever test rode it after my first service put 40+ miles on it.
Suzuki makes all their bikes look like crap in promo shots. It’s some sort of reverse marketing ploy. I did a ton of online research before buying and never looked at this bike. Then I walked into the dealership and bought it ten seconds after seeing it in person.
July 29, 2008 at 8:17 pm #9537BoOZe P-ti MotardParticipantyou seem the only one replying me so i’ll ask you directly hihi..i’ll be bried unless you want to read my whole lot of happenings well I rode a 100cc for 2years and during these two years I ride a cbx250 honda and a few big pops like cbr600rr,cbr600f,kawa zx-7, cbx 750 and a 350cc chopperlike cruiser and though, as everyone, dreams of a big pop, what bike you’d suggest me personally ‘coz i;m not gana be tempted by big pops and ride a bike around 250cc. and I dnt like sport (RR) bikes like ninja 250r but rather hooligan bikes…so wot u rekon ms.G?

Solomolo RiderJuly 29, 2008 at 8:26 pm #9538ShannonGParticipantI LOVEt this bike, but you can’t get it in North America and it’s only suitable if you have riding experience.
It’s a Yamaha FZ6, and it comes stock with undertail exhaust. Check out the rear view at the Yamaha UK website.
July 29, 2008 at 8:40 pm #9541BoOZe P-ti MotardParticipantI know about it… (actually I know about most hooligans bikes) I once had a crush on it… then the z750) but the R1 leaves me mesmerized!!! Quote “”you have advantages over me here in my country because as ben said, let’s say a good jacket is $300, here the jacket would be $600-$800!!!!! Fiuking tax n etc… ( $1 = Rs 28 [rupees]) nevertheless a brand new kawa 250 might be $3000 or so..here 6000!!!! like a brand new 600cc bike..and better not mention the 600cc bike here…””” but one of the advantages we have here, we get all models of all bikes mostly the big 4 japanese marks! The rest we have to import like HD or ducati… so your think this will suit me according to what i said about me? really i need some advice coz if i had the opportunity, would buy all :}
