YW50 smokes a lot

Post by blueklr2009 »

Our 2009 Yamaha YW50 is smoking a lot. It used to smoke some after starting, then as it was warmed up it did very little. Now, as it's just being ridden after the winter (and almost none last summer) it starts ok but smokes a lot more even if it's warmed up. Just filled with gas and oil (Yamalube) so is there anything that we should look at?

Smoke usually means too much oil. Oil is delivered to the carburetor and auto mixed with the fuel. There's no adjustment there. The most likely cause is worn engine components, such as the piston rings. You might have to take the cylinder head off and see the condition of the cylinder and the piston.
