Hi Everyone,
My name is Nate, and I’m from Portland, Or. I’m about 6′, 215 lb, a Capricorn and love moonlit walks on the beach….but this isn’t that kind of website.
I’m new to the site and new to riding. I have ridden a dirt bike, but it was a long time ago, I have ridden quads, I’ve taken my buddies scooter for a spin a few times (in a parking lot) and I love mountain biking, so I don’t think that hopping on a *real* motorcycle will be too much of a stretch for me, but I know I’m going to be a bit out of my element.
I’ve always wanted a motorcycle, and actually got a learner’s permit and a Helmet and fully intended to sign up for the training a couple years ago, but life and procrastination got the better of me. My friend recently got a scooter, and I decided that I had to get my endorsement before he does. So, I will be attending the Team Oregon BRT course next weekend. For those that don’t know it is a 1 evening + 2 Day course, that (I’ve heard) is similar to the MSF BRC. Good thing is that ‘passing’ the course waives the DMV tests for an endorsement.
Anyways, on to the question I wanted to ask. Does anyone have suggestions for when I’m in the course. Anything that I should especially listen for or pay attention to? Any suggestions for questions I could ask?
Thanks,

Good luck with the course. You should not have much trouble. Just pay attention to the instructions and try to do things the correct way so they become habits. By the second day I found the use of the controls was much more automatic than the first day which required me thinking about every movement.
Let us know how it goes.

Just come prepared to listen, learn and have fun. It’s not a competitive environment, so don’t worry about comparing yourself to the other riders. Watch the demo’s by the instructors closely and do what THEY do, not what the other students. They are learning just like you are!
And just to make sure it’s emphasized….HAVE FUN!!!! It’s supposed to be fun, and you’re going to learn something. Let us know how you do.
